Anyone else unemployed at present?
Hello! I am new here at OA. I have been out of work since June 2008 and have been poking around trying to keep positive. Anyone else out there doing the same? Let me know... I am just finding my way around...

Hello and welcome!

While I'm not currently unemployed, I've been in your shoes many times. And it can really suck.

I wrote and article that you may be interested in. It's called, "It’s All Going to be OK: Tips for the Recently Laid Off"

You'll find several conversations and suggestions on job searches. Check out our Career & Education Services page where you'll find job search opportunities and ways to improve your resume.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.

Hello,

I just joined OA about seven minutes ago, and I'm also trying to find my way around. I'm so happy to have found this site - it is excellent!

I've been unemployed since January 2008, but have been going the temp route. I thank God for my husband, who has a great job with great benefits. Unemployment has been very helpful, as well. I'm still enthusiastically looking for a permanent position, though.

I've worked mainly in the hospital and non-profit fields as an Executive Associate Assistant, which I love, and which I'm still pursuing.

You be encouraged, and don't give up! Are you looking - to interview for a new job? If so, I hope you have much success in your job search. Above all, just keep busy and try to stay motivated.

Take care!

Re: Anyone else unemployed at present?
I was laid off in May of 2008 and did unemployment for about 4 months. I was lucky enough to get a temporary position, but the company where I am temping does not really hire their temps, so the longest I'll ever have a job there in one place is one year.

I am still actively looking for a permanent position and hope to hear about one either today or by the latest Tuesday (crossing my fingers).

Good afternoon ljmorgan:
If you are still looking, my company is in search of a few sharp business-minded individuals to lead an expansion team. It may or may not be for you but will only take about 15 minutes to see. Which city and state you currently reside in?

Yes, I've been unemployed since the end of September, 2008. It has been very frustrating as I have sent 5-8 resumes out per week and have had but two (2) calls. I answer ads from Craigslist, Careerbuilder and Monster.com to name a few. I have been told by a couple of head-hunters that my resume is excellent. I think that it basically boils down to the economy. I am looking for an F/T Executive Assistant opportunity. I've been approached for all types of insurance-type opportunities which hold no allure for me as they are basically based upon commission. I think those of us that are between jobs, just have to keep focused, and keep our skills polished as I strongly believe that if we do not use them, we will lose them.
