MS Office 2007: Turning Back the Hands of Time
The thing about Office 2007 is that, most people either love it or hate it. The new menu structure has been a relief to some, but it's been a complete nuisance to many others. I am guessing that if you are reading a piece on how to turn your 2007 Microsoft Office menu into the old 2003 style menu, then you probably fall into the "hate it" category, and not the "love it" one.
After all, if you weren't born into the computer generation, you've spent a lot of time and energy into learning how to use the Microsoft Office Suite, and now the programmers just come along and make all of these changes. They expect that you should just take all of your extra free time (because you have so much of that hanging around) and your energy (another thing that you have in abundance, right?) to learn how to use each and every thing in the program over again. Super simple, right? Right??
Well, just in case you don't want to take up all of the time and energy to re-learn the software, I can offer you a way back to the peaceful days of the past, when you knew how to use all of the features and they were in their proper places.
Thanks to the magic of a plug-in, you can make things exactly like they used to be. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the concept of a plug-in, it's a small piece of software that either enhances or simplifies the use of another piece of software.
The plug-in that we're talking about is called "Classic Menu for Office 2007." This suite of plug-ins comes with a set of software, each of which handles one of your Office programs. The suite includes:
- Classic Menu for Office 2007
- Classic Menu for Word 2007
- Classic Menu for Excel 2007
- Classic Menu for Access 2007
- Classic Menu for Outlook 2007
- Classic Menu for PowerPoint 2007
Each of the programs in included in the bundle, or available for a separate installation, so if for some reason you hate the Office 2007 menus that you find in the Excel program but you have a growing affection for the ones in your Outlook menu, then you can just ditch the ones that you don't like.
Before you get too excited, there is just one other thing that you should know about. The program is not a freebie. It will cost you a fee of $30 in order to get back the Microsoft Office that you have come to know and depend on. Still, in the end, this is a small price to pay for some.
Just one final note, if you choose to do this then you will have to be aware that you may find this a stop gap measure at best. There may not be another version of this software made when your Office Suite upgrades again, and we have no idea what the next version of Office will have in the way of menus.
Talk about it
