There have been many times in my life when I couldn't help but be reminded of inspirational quotes by inspirational people. In fact, these little nuggets of wisdom often get me through troubling periods of time. It's not uncommon for me to justify the way I feel about something or the way I relate to something with quotes from the past. I use them in conversation to cheer friends up and I also use them as consolation. I'm never more moved than by women whose words have been immortalized after years of overcoming hardships. So, as a tribute to them as well as a tribute to all of you, here is a compilation of my favorite quotes by women:

"The most beautiful things in the world are not seen nor touched. They are felt with the heart."

Helen Keller

"It was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor yet we, the male citizens; but we, the whole people, who formed the Union."

Susan B. Anthony

"Nothing will work unless you do."

Maya Angelou

"In politics if you want anything said, ask a man. If you want anything done, ask a woman."

Margaret Thatcher

"A woman is like a teabag. It's only when she's in hot water that you realize how strong she is."

Nancy Reagan

"Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission."

Eleanor Roosevelt

"Remove those 'I want you to like me' stickers from your forehead and, instead, place them where they truly will do the most good - on your mirror!"

Susan Jeffers

"Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good? Luckily, this is not difficult."

Charlotte Whitton

"Somewhere out in this audience may even be someone who will one day follow in my footsteps, and preside over the White House as the President's spouse. I wish him well!"

Barbara Bush

"How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!"

Maya Angelou

"Love comes when manipulation stops; when you think more about the other person than about his or her reactions to you. When you dare to reveal yourself fully. When you dare to be vulnerable."

Dr. Joyce Brothers

"Sometimes questions are more important than answers."

Nancy Willard

"One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar."

Helen Keller

These are just a few of my favorites. What quotes inspire you? Whose words do you reflect upon in troubled times? List them in the discussion.
