In one of my favorite movies, My Big Fat Greek Wedding there's a scene where Toula, the main character, jumps up to greet her customer (and future fiancé) but forgets to unplug the hands-free headset she's wearing and is forcefully pulled onto her back by the cord. For me, it's laugh-out-loud funny because...well...I've totally been there. Those hands-free headsets are wonderful as long as you're not leaving your desk. Otherwise, they're a workers' comp nightmare waiting to happen!

Apparently, the folks over at AT&T like romantic comedies as much as I do. Someone there must have seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding and resolved to make high-quality, cordless hands-free headsets so there would never be another embarrassing headset incident for Toula or any of us office professionals.

I recently received the AT&T TL7610 Cordless Headset as a "review unit" this week. As our newest partner, they wanted me to see for myself what an AT&T cordless headset was like. In just a few short days, I've put some miles on this bad boy!! Here's a brief re-cap of our adventures:

First, I set my new cordless headset up at home. As a compulsive multi-tasker, I'm always trying to cook dinner while talking on the phone. Inevitably, I end up with a crick in my neck or - worse - a few drops of blood in my veggies. So I was eager to try it out in the kitchen first. The convenience, obviously, is awesome. I talked to my mother while I made her famous Chicken Marsala recipe. I chopped and stirred and even cleaned up the mess without ever a pause in the conversation. And, even when I roamed dangerously far from the base of the phone (I went all the way out to my balcony at one point), the reception was crystal-clear.

The next day, I brought it to the office. I set it up (which was easier the second time around - I'm too impatient to read instruction manuals so I always just guess...) and then jumped on a conference call. During the call, I was able to (a) freely move around the office without missing a word of the conversation, (b) type my notes instead of scribbling them on a notepad and transcribing to the computer later, and (c) accomplish some much needed, long-procrastinated, office clean-up.

After using my new cordless hands-free headset for a few days, I've realized something that might sound a little strange. I actually think better when I'm free to move around. Maybe the extra blood flow to my brain gives me the added boost. Or maybe it's just the fact that I'm more comfortable; I'm not awkwardly positioning the phone between my neck and shoulder while trying to stretch across my desk or kitchen counter. I'm able to concentrate on the conversation and perform the task at hand, without dangerous repercussions.

Please join me in welcoming our newest sponsor - the company responsible for keeping me safe while multi-tasking on the phone: AT&T Cordless Headsets. Try one out for yourself and see how much more you can get done. If only poor Toula had one...but then, the scene wouldn't nearly as funny.
