When I think of company events, I think of the same old boring gifts. You know: the company logo stress ball, company logo pens, those awful company calendars and even calculators. With the millions of options out there for company giveaway items, you would think marketing could get a little more creative. Granted, the traditional marketing tools have been successful in the past; but it's time to think outside-the-box to make your event a unique success.

Event attendees often expect to walk away with some sort of gift, so why not make it something they can not only use but also like?

Be Lavish

If you're planning a formal event, your attendees will probably expect goodies to match. Because of the cost, however, these are most appropriate for gatherings with smaller numbers of attendees. There are certain items that have stood the test of time like:

  • Crystal ornaments
  • High end pen set
  • Watches or jewelry
  • Liquor or champagne

These are pretty traditional; however you can narrow your focus to include incredible high-end gifts with recognizable brands, sure to please. You can never go wrong with Swarovski Crystal stemware or desk trinkets. Brides go out of their way to spend thousands to adorn their dresses with these crystals and your event goers are sure to be equally enthused.

Pen sets are a little boring to me, but there are plenty of event goers who see the value of a good pen. As with everything in lavish gifts, a nice pen set will cost a pretty penny. You can have your company logo printed or engraved on the pen as to keep your brand awareness going, but you'll likely spend around $100 a piece. Imagine the faces of your employees and co-workers lighting up as they fumble through their gift bag to find a Tiffany bracelet or Tag Hauer watch. The popularity of these two brands has reached the masses; however, few of us can actually afford to spend such a large amount on anything we merely want. Surprise them with something they've always wanted.

Liquor and champagne is probably the easiest route to go when looking for goodie bag fillers. Almost every professional enjoys a good drink every now and then, and look forward to reveling in the flavor of a nice single malt scotch or to celebrate with a glass of Armand de Brignac or Cristal champagnes.

All of these are crowd pleasers but they also show great appreciation. You're exhibiting that the company will spare no expense in keeping its attendees (be they clients, associates or employees) happy. But, what if your company can't possibly afford such extravagant gifts?

Green Giveaways

Recycled totes are always a great idea for green events. Ecobags.com offers tons of recycled and organic cotton bags that are easily printed with your logo. Use these to store your giveaway goodies.

Filling the bags is another story. There are tons of options, but let me give you a few hints:

  • Staple free stapler - uses tiny pieces of paper to essentially sew the pages together. It's eco and kid friendly.
  • Eco-bamboo throw - this throw blanket is a great touch for company events. Bamboo is a naturally anti-bacterial and your employees will love curling up next to your logo on chilly nights.
  • Recycled coasters - we all need them, but judging by the rings on your hard wood table, we don't all use them. Add your company logo to these recycled coasters for a fun party favor.
  • Wine carrier - add a bottle of wine and your logo to this carrier for the ultimate in recyclable and reusable gifts.
  • Logo imprinted walnuts - these little nuts are natural and biodegradable, not to mention a great place to put your logo.
  • Mint boxes - these awesome custom designed mints boxes are made from recycled materials and are easily printed on all four sides with your logo. Add your choice of mints.
  • Plantable business cards - These pop out cards are 100% recycled. Add your company logo to this recycled linen that dissolves in dirt and water and grows actual herbs and flowers.

There are a ton of unique gifts out there. If you have an idea of something you haven't seen before or know that your idea already exists, speak with your local promotional item representative. They will likely print anything you can dream of. Whether you're thinking fancy or global, ditch the traditional promo items and get creative. Project your company's unique personality with these giveaways and turn your event into a forum of appreciation for your employees and the planet.
