Save Money on Publicity for Your Company Event

Coordinating an event for a large corporation is vastly different from coordinating an event for a small organization. Large companies have budgets for many different kinds of events and can afford to pay the necessary fees for publicizing. However, smaller organizations don't always have a budget large enough to cover the advertising and are often looking for creative ways to get the word out to the public.
Saving money when it comes to publicity isn't impossible and can certainly be done. Publicity doesn't always have to be expensive parties, celebrity speakers and large ads in national magazines. Publicity can be very simple, with some creativity.
Write a News Release
If you have writing skills, use them to your company's benefit! Write a news release and submit it to free newspapers, or free websites (you can find many useful sites on Google). Try free classified websites such as craigslist.com or kijji.com. Both are excellent resources and have a lot of daily traffic.
Write a PSA
While you are practicing your writing skills, write a PSA (Public Service Announcement) and submit to your local radio station. Often radio stations are willing to help organizations get the word out. Many stations have websites with emails to submit your PSA to.
Hold an Open House
Consider holding an open house! It may seem redundant but if you are holding an event, how do you expect people to attend if they don't know about your organization? Invite members of the community, including political figures and showcase your product or cause. At the open house, mention your upcoming event and if you are selling tickets, be sure they are on sale.
Coordinate with other Businesses
Work with a small business that is also looking to advertise. If you are looking for bargains, try contacting the new printing house that just opened down the street. They may be able to give you an excellent deal provided you print their label on all of your brochures, programs and newsletters. Or approach a small unknown deli in your neighbourhood. Perhaps they can help provide catering if you place their name on all publicity.
Word of Mouth
It's all in who you know! Word of mouth is often a great way to get the event out to the public and save you a lot of money in the process. Speak with everyone you know and get your co-workers to do the same. You'll be surprised at how small the world really is. Someone's uncle may know the CEO of a large PR firm or perhaps another person's best friend's mom is the owner of a magazine. Network and always mention the details of the event, as well as the fact that you are looking for some advertising.
Get on the Web
Use your website! Many companies have a website so use it to your advantage and be sure to post your event on the homepage. Include all details including when, where and how much for the tickets. You can also use social networking sites such as myspace.com, facebook.com, and even OfficeArrow.com. All are fantastic tools to promote an event to a vast amount of people.
