I don't know about you, but for me, nothing packs on the pounds like the holidays. Now that we're finally past the family get-togethers and year-end celebrations, it's time to re-establish some healthy eating patterns. Thankfully, our friends at Quill have some wonderful solutions to get us back on track, both at home and at the office.
Prepare
The night before work, pack yourself a healthy lunch and a couple of snacks. To simplify meals on the run, we often reach for convenience foods that can add excess fats, calories, sugar and sodium to your diet. When life is busy (which is pretty much always) maintain your health by thinking ahead and planning your foods accordingly.
Snack Smart
Everyone loves to snack - and believe it or not, snacking is actually quite healthy. It keeps your metabolism running smoothly and prevents you from overindulging later in the day. The key is to make smart selections and monitor your portions.
Instead of reaching for that bag of chips full of worthless calories, bring along a Nabisco® 100 Calorie Pack or other portion controlled, low-calorie snack. Also, take a couple of pieces of fruit with you to munch on throughout the day. Apples, oranges, bananas are easy choices to throw in your lunch or travel bag. Nuts are always a good protein alternative to help you snack healthy. Pack some almonds, pecans or other nuts in a bag to bring with you. You can also bring along some cheese or yogurt to snack on. In grocery stores you can now find pre-packaged cheese in snack-size portions.
Switch Up Your Soft Drinks
Soft drinks can be a weakness for many people. Try replacing one to two soft drinks a day with a healthier choice. Bottled water, juices and teas are great alternatives to high-calorie soft drinks.
Veg Out
Don't forget your vegetable intake for the day. Veggies provide much needed vitamins and minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients. They're an easy and healthy way to provide satisfaction.
Celery and baby carrots are convenient to take on the go. Or, get creative and pack yourself a salad full of colorful vegetables.
Sandwich Solutions
Sandwiches are probably the easiest things to pack for lunch. However, they can also pack quite a caloric punch. Instead of using white bread for your sandwich, try whole wheat or seven grain bread. Also, replace red meats with white meats. Make yourself a turkey, chicken, tuna fish or vegetable sandwich.
You can find tasty, healthy snack alternatives like Nabisco® 100 Calorie Packs and Nature Valley® granola bars on Quill's website. So go on - get started with your New Year's resolution. It's easier than you think.
